Unitarians are united by values rather than belief in one set of creed or dogma.
Our values include acceptance of one another, compassion, and a commitment to justice and equity. We explore the mysteries of life, pursue ethical living, live out our spirituality in this world by working for peace, justice, equality, democracy, and respect for one another, as well as for the interdependent web of life, of which we are all a part.
It's not who or what we believe in that is important, but rather, how we live our life. We are united not by creed or dogma, but by a shared covenant (our eight principles). We draw wisdom and inspiration from Unitarian Universalism, but also from many faith traditions. We are atheist, agnostic, believers in God, and more.
On the forefront of social and environmental justice, we champion Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer inclusion and act for a just and sustainable world.
We welcome you: your whole self, with all your truths, your doubts, your worries, and your hopes. Join us on this extraordinary adventure of faith.
The inherent worth and dignity of every person.
Justice, equity and compassion in human relations.
Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations.
A free and responsible search for truth and meaning.
The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and within society at large.
The goal of world community, with peace, liberty, and justice for all.
Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
Individual and communal action that accountably dismantles racism and other structural barriers to full inclusion in ourselves and our institutions.
Calgary Unitarians is a "Welcoming Congregation." In 2000, we completed a Unitarian Universalist Association program and passed a congregational vote to affirm that we welcome the membership and active participation of the LGBTQ community. This means we affirm and include people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer at every level of congregational life in worship, in programs, and on social occasions- not only welcoming and celebrating the whole person but etching out a space of permanent and meaningful belonging.
The Calgary Alliance for the Common Good: is a non-partisan and non-profit alliance of congregations, unions, school and community groups in Calgary representing more than 35,000 people. These organizations came together to form the Calgary Alliance for the Common Good in order to organize the power of our communities to shape a just and compassionate city.
Calgary Interfaith Council: One of the invitations common to world religions is to welcome the stranger and love our neighbour. The Calgary Interfaith Council is exploring this theme over the next year from the richness of our diverse faith traditions and with the shared reality of living in particular neighbourhoods in Calgary. We invite you to be part of this exciting work.
Green Sanctuary 2030: Mobilizing for Climate Justice provides structure, leadership and support, in broad collaboration, for the UU faith community to engage in an ambitious environmental and climate justice movement that seeks to live fully our principles and achieve our vision of a sustainable and just world for all.
Charter for Compassion: We support the emerging global movement that brings compassion to life. We are a global network connecting people, cities, grassroots organizers and leaders to each other. We provide educational resources, organizing tools, and avenues for communication. With your help we can all make a difference.
